At Andrew Jackson Middle School, we look forward to the installation of the OpenGate advanced weapons detection system this school year. OpenGate screens for weapons while maintaining a fast and efficient flow of students, staff, and visitors entering campus.

OpenGate allows individuals to walk through with most personal items without stopping, helping reduce delays while enhancing campus security.

The Sales Surtax renewal of the existing half-cent sales tax helps ensure we can continue improving these protective measures, so every school remains a safe, welcoming place for students to learn.

The Millage renewal invests directly in the educators who serve Brevard students every day. This is not a new tax.

80% of Millage funding supports employee compensation, including additional pay for instructional personnel based on their years of teaching experience and performance.

At Andrew Jackson Middle School, Teresa Huskisson brings 16 years of teaching experience to the classroom. Mrs. Huskisson is our science department chairperson and teaches Cambridge science classes, as well as regular science. She involves students in environmental field trips, advises the STEM Club, prepares and accompanies students to the L3 Harris STEM Competition each year, and has won the AJMS Teacher of the Year award twice! Mrs. Huskisson's valuable experience helps provide students with strong instruction, consistency, and support year after year.

By recognizing the value of experience, Millage-funded compensation increases over time to reward educators for their years of service and dedication to their profession. This investment encourages experienced teachers to continue building their careers in Brevard Public Schools, benefiting both students and school communities.

The Sales Surtax renewal is paid for by everyone who shops in Brevard and funds major improvements to our school facilities. This is not a new tax.

Sales Surtax funding allows Brevard Public Schools to complete essential projects that keep campuses safe, comfortable, and ready to serve students for years to come.

At Andrew Jackson Middle School, Sales Surtax funding made painting of the exterior roof and interior spaces possible.

From updated air-conditioning systems and new roofs to renovated classrooms, playgrounds, tracks, and safety improvements, these investments help ensure our school buildings continue meeting the needs of students and staff.

The Millage renewal funds game officials for middle and high school athletics across Brevard County. This is not a new tax.

These officials help ensure games are conducted safely, consistently, and fairly for all student-athletes.

At Andrew Jackson Middle School, this funding allows revenue collected through ticket sales to stay within the athletic program rather than being used to cover officiating expenses. Those dollars can then be directed back into opportunities and resources that benefit student-athletes.

From equipment and uniforms to program needs throughout the year, keeping more athletic funding at the school level helps support a positive experience for student-athletes while strengthening school athletic programs.

Surtax funding strengthens school safety by providing the security tools schools rely on every day.

This is not a new tax. The Sales Surtax is a renewal of the existing half-cent sales tax that helps fund safe, maintained, and modern school facilities.

One example is the Raptor Badge Alert system. Funded by the Surtax, the system is designed to enhance student and staff safety by providing a faster emergency response when assistance is needed.

Tools like Raptor help schools communicate quickly and make it possible to respond rapidly in an emergency. When these safety systems are in place, students and staff can feel confident walking through the doors each morning.

Sales Surtax ensures Brevard Public Schools can continue investing in protective measures that help keep every school a safe and welcoming place for students to learn.

The Sales Surtax renewal helps keep classrooms connected, secure, and equipped. This is not a new tax.

Sales Surtax supports the critical, invisible backbone of school technology. These dollars pay for the essential systems that keep classrooms connected and secure, including network cabling, cybersecurity protections, wireless access points, and other infrastructure that students and teachers rely on every day.

At Andrew Jackson Middle School, the technology infrastructure funded by the Sales Surtax helps keep every classroom connected and ready for learning.

Technology changes quickly, and the Sales Surtax ensures our schools can keep pace. When the infrastructure is strong, every classroom stays connected, teachers have reliable tools, and schools can operate efficiently.

Millage helps Brevard Public Schools continue offering programs that keep students learning, engaged, and prepared for the future. This is not a new tax.

It helps fund music programs in our secondary schools, providing students with opportunities to develop their talents through band, chorus, orchestra, and other performing arts experiences.

At Andrew Jackson Middle School, millage funding helped support the purchase of chairs and music stands for band and orchestra classrooms. These resources allow student musicians to learn, perform, and grow.

Participation in music education builds creativity, discipline, teamwork, and confidence while helping students develop skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

The Sales Surtax renewal is paid for by everyone who shops in Brevard and funds safe, well-maintained schools. This is not a new tax.

It funds secure buildings, facility investments, and technology infrastructure — the physical spaces students learn in every day.

This year at Andrew Jackson Middle School, that meant new classroom furniture; classroom LED lighting; electrical renewal; interior and exterior painting; replacement of exterior doors; and science lab renovations.

The Sales Surtax allows Brevard Public Schools to make these needed improvements, ensuring students and staff learn and work in safe, comfortable, and resilient buildings — year after year.

This November, two local funding measures are on the ballot. Neither are new. Both are already
in place.

Earlier this week we shared about Sales Surtax. The second measure on November's ballot is the Millage — a property tax renewal that funds the teachers, programs, and technology that make learning happen every day in Brevard County classrooms.

Millage is the small portion of property taxes that stays right here in Brevard County, locally approved by voters to directly support Brevard Public Schools. Every dollar collected goes to the people and programs inside our schools. Millage funds three things: employee pay, essential programs, and classroom technology.

This November, two local funding measures are on the ballot. Neither are new. Both are already in place.

The first is the Sales Surtax — a sales tax renewal that funds safe, maintained, and modern school facilities.

The Surtax is the small portion of sales tax that stays right here in Brevard to keep school buildings safe, in good repair, and up to date. It funds three things: secure buildings, facility investments, and technology infrastructure.

Over the next several weeks, we'll share more about what the Surtax funds.
